Average Last Day for 100 degrees in Phoenix

Its almost fall again in Phoenix. Football season started a few weeks ago, baseball season will be wrapping up in a few months and preseason Hockey fires up Sept 21. In parts of the country parents are realizing that their kid outgrew their winter coat over the summer but in Arizona we turn to Google and type “Last 100 degree day in phoenix” and are sorely disappointed. Oh crap, up to a month left of this. We are thinking, last year it wasn’t this hot this late. Here is the data that I found on NOAA and yep it was this hot last year, in fact, my electric bill is actually lower this year than last this month, and I dont have those new age solar thingies on my roof.

Why I am now in support of Arizona Senate Bill 1070.

First of all let me explain my political views.  I am neither a Democrat or Republican, I'm a Thinker.  I think that people that keyhole them selves into one party or the other can't make up their own minds and are shallow in their decision making skills.   I am also not a Libertarian, though most of my friends would consider me one.  I believe that I am a libertarian with a little 'l'.  I makeup my own mind and change it often if I have gathered enough facts. Case in point is this bill that just passed in Arizona.

WHY THE BILL WAS NEEDED

When the Arizona Senate Passed Senate Bill 1070 I was very much against.  I was thinking that the bill went to far.  I am against Criminal Aliens and all the crimes that do.  Criminal Aliens in the United States are receiving free medical care, free schooling , voting , working  and committing crimes.  Just being the the United States illegally is a federal crime.  Most Americans want something done about the Criminal Alien problems that we have.  They want the border secured.  Most already know that we cannot round up everyone here illegally and send them home.  Most are here to work and send money to their families back home.  But they have to follow the proper channels to enter the US legally.  I personally know 4 citizens that were born outside the US but are now citizens.  I also know someone who is jumping through all the 'hoops' that we have set up so that she can become a US Citizen.  We have to make that procedure easier, it should not have to take 5-15 years to become a citizen.  But while those people were in the process of becoming US citizens they became a legal resident and were required to carry a 'Green' Card.  If you are here for a legit reason aquiring one should not be that hard.  The federal government was doing nothing to stop the flow of criminal aliens across the southern border, and the northern border is much worse.  The citizens of the state of Arizona were fed up and were demanding something to be done.  Sheriff Joe of the MCSO was one of the only departments actually doing something.  At times he is a showboat, holding press conferences every time he had a crime suppression sweep, and thinking to myself there was no need for that.  But at every election he had landslide victories.  The Arizona citizens would grasp at anything or anyone that would curb the flow of criminal aliens and the wake of crime that follows.

WHAT CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT THE BILL
I read the bill.  It is as simple as that.  Just like most people that follow current events I listened to the talking heads on tv and radio. I was told by the media that some police officers would make you prove that you are a legal citizen if you are pulled over.  The Asst Police Chief in Phoenix said that his police force would not accept an Arizona drivers license as proof of citizenship. Why would the Phoenix police department open them selves up to lawsuits.  The bill does not state what IDs can be used to prove who you say you are some some cities that do not want to enforce the law are trying to make it as inconvenient on people as possible in hopes that there will be a public out cry and the law will be over turned.  AFTER and only after reading the complete text of the bill did I learn that the new law clearly states that they must have probable cause before they can demand you to prove that you are legally in the US.  Pulling someone over for a broken taillight and asking for a drivers license and proof of insurance is all that the police can legally do.  Only if you cannot produce a drivers license issued in the 50 states (or it is deemed to be a falsified ID) do you need to provide additional papers that you are in the US legally.  Did you know that if you are picked up by the FBI they verify the same thing.  They want to know if you are here legally here or not. American citizens have Rights under our Constitution, Criminal Aliens do not.

I was told by the media that it would allow anyone to sue a police officer or department if they 'felt' that the officer or department was not doing enough to enforce the law.
AFTER and only after reading the complete text of the bill did I learn that the new law clearly states: "G. A PERSON MAY BRING AN ACTION IN SUPERIOR COURT TO CHALLENGE ANY OFFICIAL OR AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE THAT ADOPTS OR IMPLEMENTS A POLICY THAT LIMITS OR RESTRICTS THE ENFORCEMENT OF FEDERAL IMMIGRATION LAWS TO LESS THAN THE FULL EXTENT PERMITTED BY FEDERAL LAW."  The keywords are 'adopt' and 'implement' procedures that restricts enforcement of the law.

Somethings that I supported from this bill from the beginning are: 1. Companies cannot knowingly hire Criminal Aliens.  With unemployment of Americans around 10-12% the first people that should receive a job are citizens.  Companies will be penalized for hiring Criminal Aliens. This was already a law in the State, it was just restated in this law.  2. It makes it a crime to hire someone off a street corner.  For an example of this use Google Maps Street View: Goto Broadway Rd & Gilbert Rd in Mesa AZ (look behind the Arco AM/PM gas station).  You will see workers standing on the corners soliciting for jobs.  It is very dangerous and has caused many wrecks when cars stop to pick up workers.  You can pull into the business to pick p the workers, you just cant block traffic.

I challenge everyone to read this bill.  Compare it to federal law.  All procedures to verify if a person is a legal resident they took from federal law, they even referenced the federal laws when writing this law.  Please read it and understand it and keep in mind being in the country illegally is ALREADY against the law.  Coming here to work with out a workers permit is illegal, Arizona is just enforcing the Federal law on a state level, which is permitted by our Constitution.

Why only want to be married for 7 years.

My wife and I were having her wedding ring fixed again the other day.  The nice young lady at the store asked: "How long have you two been married?"  We answered "7 years".  The young lady then responded: "I just got engaged and I hope that I can be married for 7 years too!".  About that time my wife and I both bit our tongues not wanting to get in an argument with the nice lady that had my wife's ring.

Why would anyone hope to be married for only 7 years.  In the ceremony doesn't the priest say: "Till death due you part."  When we marry our spouse are we making a life long bond that no man can take apart because we were sealed by God.  Do you think that the problem with the divorce rate is that people have their hopes set to low.  I remember when I told my friends that I was marring my beautiful wife they all joked that my life was over, no more fun and the big ball and chain around my ankle.  My really close friends and those that enjoyed spending times with their families all congratulated me.  Some even joked, about time.  Julie and I dated for 4 years before I proposed, we knew after three and a half years that we would get married but we kept that low key.  She was still in college and I did not have much money, heck, I didnt have any money.  I had to put her engagement ring on layaway at the outlet jewelry store in the bad part of town.

After the announcement was made the advice came in from all the family members, "Divorce is not an option", "Never go to bed mad at each other" and "Have a weekly date night." were just some examples.  No one told us that those things were really hard to do but we never gave up.  Young couples need to know that being happily married can be hard at times, we are tested everyday.  The stuff we watch on tv, read in books and see in the movies all say that divorce is okay and that it is an option when the road gets rough.  My wife and I work everyday on our relationship.  We never take a day off or go on vacation when working on our marriage.  Do we get into arguments? Yes, and we have had some dandies.  But we never give up on each other.  Never going to bed mad at each other.  That is some great advice!  Try it, its the hardest.  We have stayed up past midnight with this one, usually trying to figure out why she was mad at me.  (Guys will understand this, ladies just give us a hint or a time frame on why you are mad at us.  You really dont want us to list everything that we could have done to upset you.)  Stay up late and talk it over and dont lie to each other and say that everything is okay when it is not just so that you can go to bed.  Have a weekly date night.  We struggle with this one all the time.  Lately for us this one has been catching up on tv.  We have no kids so this should be easy, but it is not.  She works hard, three, 12 hour shifts a week and doesn't have the same night off 2 weeks in a row.  Date night doesn't have to be expensive, dollar menu and a local park,  cook dinner together, go play putt putt.  Exchange baby sitting with a neighbor couple that also wants a night without kids.  You can have Family Night, Julie and I were invited to a friend's house about a year ago for this.  It was wonderful, we all ate dinner together, sang, said prayers and played games.  They do this every week, so I know that it can be done.  They have 4 kids and are one of the happiest couples I know.  And that brings us to "Divorce is not an option." I tell you what, if you do the above things, and you really do it, don't fake it, it wont be an option.  It will never even be brought up.  You may notice a trend, Faith.  As much as some dont want to admit it, Faith of some kind must be present in a marriage.  I was proud of my sister when she sent me a text a few years ago, How do you go about finding a Church when your beliefs are different?  She is now happily married.

You may ask, well Bill, how long do you want to be married for?  I don't know, my wife and I joke sometimes, "We will be married well into our 100's!" But why sell our selves short, I want to be married forever to the same woman I met in 1997 or 98.  I cannot believe it had been that long, it seems that just yesterday that we bought our home together and that was in 2004.
